Stockist Feature: Nettle's Tale

MEET THE MUTTONHEAD STOCKISTS

Nettle’s Tale

This edition of Retail Feature should spark the interest of all of our Muttonhead gals out there. This time around, we bring to you a Vancouver based Women's swimwear brand that has branched out into a whole lifestyle shop for the quintessential West Coast lady. Nestled in Gastown’s busy cobbled streets, Nettle’s Tale offers a safe and comfortable space for women that are ethically and locally conscious while providing a non- judgemental, like minded environment. Check out what they had to say about joining our accomplished list of stockists.

Q:

WHAT INITIALLY DREW YOU TO MUTTONHEAD, AND WHY DID YOU PURSUE BECOMING A STOCKIST?

A:

Muttonhead is proudly Canadian from the designs the brand produces, to the outdoor lifestyle the apparel is made for and where the products are made, we felt the brand really aligned with what our brand and our store is all about.

Q:

STAFF AT YOUR SHOP: FAMILY, FRIENDS, ONE MAN SHOW? HOW DOES YOUR TEAM WORK TOGETHER TO CREATE A WELCOMING AND INTERACTIVE STOREFRONT FOR YOUR CUSTOMER BASE?

A:

Our storefront is birthed from our in-house brand Nettle’s Tale Swimwear. It is a line of swimwear designed after actual women in our lives and made in Vancouver, BC. Our store is a reflection of the aesthetic of the swimwear line and adventure apparel and items our swimwear customers would need for everyday life and their adventures. We are all about making sure women are entering a warm and welcoming, attentive, non-judgemental customer service experience. We do this by having a store that feels like a cozy cabin and the vibe to match.

Q:

WHO IS YOUR CUSTOMER, AND HOW DO YOU LIKE TO CONNECT WITH THEM / KEEP THEM IN THE LOOP REGARDING NEW ARRIVALS?

 A:

Our customer base is primarily female because of the swimwear brand. We like to make sure we are regularly connecting with our customers on social media and through direct emails. Letting them know what’s new in the shop that week for product and in store events. This summer we are planning on having our first Nettle’s Tale meet up at the beach  or community pool. It’s a fun way for us to connect with our customers while we are all wearing our Nettle’s Tale Shop gear.

Q:

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE ATMOSPHERE OF YOUR STORE? IS IT A COZY SPACE, OR IS IT A MINIMALISTS DREAM? DESCRIBE THE NEIGHBOURHOOD IN WHICH YOUR SHOP IS LOCATED. DOES IT HAVE A FAMILY FEEL, OR IS IT YOUNG AND TRENDY?

A:

We are located in the heart of Vancouver, on a more locally made and owned strip of businesses, in a heritage neighbourhood called Gastown. If you are ever a tourist in Vancouver or a local you will most definitely end up in Gastown. Sandwiched between Chinatown, downtown, and ocean views it is a neighbourhood that boasts of cobble stoned streets, amazing restaurants, incredible coffee, and street style shopping. Our store is small and cozy and we like customers to feel as if they are walking into a cabin you would find along the West Coast of BC. In a sense the store is for all ages (as it has a throwback, nostalgic “Heritage Canadian” vibe), but done in a way that appeals to Millennials idealizing a life before technology.

Q:

DO YOU PRIMARILY CARRY LOCAL PRODUCTS? IF SO, WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO YOU? WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE STYLE & COLOUR WAY FROM THE MUTTONHEAD SS17 COLLECTION AND WHICH PIECES ARE YOUR STRONGEST SELLERS?

A:

We carry ethically made goods, so this does mean that a lot of our goods are made in Canada or the US. It is important for us from an ethical standpoint because we should be good stewards of our planet and mankind alike, but also from an economical perspective. We want to support those living in our community with our dollars. Our hottest Muttonhead seller is the Waterproof Camping Hoodie and it is not hard to guess why! It rains all the time, non-stop in Vancouver and the Waterproof Camping Hoodie is such a fun design that it is different from the traditional raincoat for the West Coast dweller.

Q:

IF YOU HAD TO PICK A MUTTONHEAD OUTFIT FOR A CAMPING TRIP WHICH PIECES WOULD BE IN YOUR PACK?

A:

If it was off-season (post September), I would pack my Merino Toque, Waterproof Camping Hoodie, and 3-Way Waterproof Pants. If it was summer, I would bring my Light Denim Muttonhead 5 Panel and Rust Canvas Shorts, and a Nettle’s Tale Swimsuit of course!
